Hello there,

My name is Kelsey Henderson. I'm an educator out of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have ten years of experience in childcare and have been employed with the Winnipeg School Division since 2022.

I've spent the last three years working in literacy education. I've trained in multiple structured literacy programs, including the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) system, the Equipped for Reading Success literacy programs, and more. I blend their curricula to meet students where they are. I use various screening tools to figure out exactly where students' reading strengths and weaknesses lie as well as to identify discrepancies between their reading skills and their memorized vocabulary. All of this allows me to tailor instruction to each individual person so that they can thrive. 

This experience has allowed me to administer a local reading clinic within the school division, a role that earned me the Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children Educational Assistant of the Year award in 2025. In the clinic, I have worked with children from kindergarten to grade 8. These children include many with disabilities and additional needs, as well as some learning English as an additional language. No matter the age, ability, or experience, if a student can listen and speak, then they can learn to read and write.
